If you are a Washington football fan then you are well aware of the rivalry between the University of Washington and Washington State University. Dating all the way back to the first Apple Cup played between the two teams in 1900, this rivalry started out being played for the Governors Trophy, but was later renamed Apple Cup in 1962 because of the state being a major producer of apples.
The end of the season is always punctuated with the playing of the Apple Cup. No matter the schools record, each team shows up to play the Apple Cup like it’s the Super Bowl of college football. And the fans take it just as serious. The disdain each school has for the other is made known with funny memes and sarcastic signs. With alternating home and away game every other year, each school does an exemplary job of hosting the other and even though the hate may run deep, fans from both schools tend to be more than welcoming and accepting of the opposing teams fans.
